A Cyberinfrastructure platform to meet the needs of data intensive radio astronomy on route to the SKA

About Me

I am a Senior Research Council Officer at the Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO) in Penticton, BC. These days I'm mostly interested in studying imaging properties of next-generation radio telescopes. One can take the output of antenna design software and simulate an observation made with a radio telescope that uses such antennas. This is done with the MeqTrees software package, a collaboration between DRAO and ASTRON, an organization in the Netherlands.

One can then evaluate the quality of the images produced with this computer-generated telescope and decide if the proposed telescope design meets the requirements of astronomers for image fidelity and stability.

By the way. For the data rate calculator I had 30 antennas and 30 beams for ASKAP. I will change that to 36 antennas. For MeerKAT 80 antennas. And 4 byte values.
You can add the data rate calculator to your applications using Tools -> applications.
