Brief description: Deep HI survey with the JVLA

Neutral hydrogen plays a central role in both driving and regulating star formation over cosmic time. We will produce the first continguous HI Deep Field, carried out with the VLA in B-array, covering a redshift range from z=0 to z=0.45. The field is centered in the COSMOS field. We will produce HI images of at least 300 galaxies spread over the entire redshift range. With help from the already existing ancillary data we will get integrated profiles of about 500 spectroscopically known galaxies and with the use of stacking we will be able to determine mean HI properties as function of redshift, galaxy mass, color and location in the large scale structure. This will be the first HI imaging that goes well beyond a redshift of z=0.2, doubling the lookback time of HI imaging studies.

CHILES Con Pol (Continuum Polarization) is a full-polarization continuum radio survey being performed commensally with the HI deep field which will reach an SKA-era sensitivity of 500 nanojanskys per 4 arcsecond beam at the field center, and will be sensitive to star formation rates of 10 Msun per year out to z=2, and to ultra-luminous infrared galaxies and sub-millimeter galaxies out to z=8 and beyond.

CHILES VERDES is a deep survey for transient and variable objects in the radio sky piggy-backing off 1000 hours of VLA observations on the CHILES HI Deep Field to "deep drill" at 1--2 GHz in the COSMOS field, searching for explosions, collisions, and disruptions.
