Brief description: The Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP)
Description:

The Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) is a project by CSIRO Australia to build a very fast radio survey telescope using phased array feeds. It is currently under construction. Early interferometry tests start in late 2011, and full science operations in 2013. ASKAP will produce about 80TB in a typical spectral line observation. This data will be transformed into an image cube using specially written software running on a 10,000 core partition of a petascale computer located at the Pawsey High Performance Computing Centre for SKA Science, located in Perth, Western Australia.
